2015-2018 GM Transmission Defects
In a class action lawsuit filed in late 2018, GM consumers allege that the 8L90 and 8L45 transmissions in their vehicles are defective. Drivers in the states of California, Florida, Illinois, New York, Oklahoma, and Texas have all reported having trouble with shifting gears, which can lead to engine damage. The suit claims that GM has been aware of these issues and has failed to inform consumers about transmission malfunctions. Many plaintiffs report that the “hard shift” is so violent that it feels as if another car has crashed into them.
According to the lawsuit, when GM began using an eight-speed transmission in 2015, the problems began. Although the company states that the new transmission actually distributes more power than the previous six-speed transmission model, consumers are adamant that this new transmission is causing considerable damage to their engines.
Transmission models 8L90 and 8L45 are found in many Chevrolet vehicles, including the 2015-2018 Silverado, the 2017-2019 Colorado, the 2015-2016 Corvette, and the 2016-2019 Camaro. The 2015-2019 Cadillac Escalade, the 2015-2019 GMC Sierra, Yukon, and the 2017-2019 GMC Canyon are also affected.
